This is for my mamas on the hunt for a pump—looking for reviews (I know, I read hundreds!)—or for my mamas in the breastfeeding journey looking for a change. I don’t blame you; I went through four!
I know there are so many breast pumps on the market, but these are the four I personally used. Here’s how I’d rank them based on my overall experience:
1. Spectra S1 (Blue) – Best Overall
Pros:
- Hospital-grade suction
- Rechargeable battery
Cons:
- Bulkier than wearable pumps
- Not entirely hands-free
Best for moms who pump frequently and want strong, reliable suction. This is your everyday dependable pump.
2. Elvie Stride– Best Hands-Free Option
Pros:
- Wearable and great for on-the-go mobility
- Ideal for pumping discreetly when you have guests over or running an errand
Cons:
- It can be hit or miss on how long it takes to empty your milk or if you feel fully emptied
- May not like the wires and monitor
Best for on-the-go moms who need mobility while pumping. I typically used my Elvie during the day and my Spectra at night. I’ve worn my Elvie to several places (nail appointments, grocery shopping, etc.—no shame in the pumping game). I find it fairly quiet, though in a quiet room you will notice the pumping noise. I read about mama’s not liking the wires but I usually wore them inside my shirt and clipped the monitor it to my sides.
3. Motif Luna with Battery
Pros:
- Quieter than the Spectra
- Lightweight
- Comes with a rechargeable battery (just make sure to get the rechargeable model, as not all versions include it)
Cons:
- Suction is lower than the Spectra (which can be a pro for some)
Best for moms who want hospital-grade suction without the need for a wearable pump or carrying around a bulky device. It’s also easy to pack. Also the Spectra and Motif use the same pumping pieces which is why I gave it a try!
Pros:
- Affordable and budget-friendly
- Portable and wearable
- Offers more power options than the Elvie Stride
Cons:
- Quite bulky, and there’s a good chance people will notice you’re wearing it
Best for Moms who need a travel-friendly pump and don’t mind wearing the bulky pumps on the go.
Final Thoughts
My favorites are the Spectra S1 and the Elvie Stride.
I used Aeroflow Breast Pumps to get my Elvie Stride through my insurance, and the process was seamless. They handle all the back work and even send you reminders when it’s time to get replacement pieces. Believe it or not, you need those replacements! With the Elvie, I had to toss a few pieces out due to wear and tear, so I’ve taken great advantage of the replacements.
Happy pumping, mamas!
